Standard Operating Procedure for Continuous Improvement in Maintenance Activities
1) Purpose
The purpose of this SOP is to establish guidelines for implementing continuous improvement initiatives in maintenance activities within pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimize resource utilization.

This SOP applies to all maintenance personnel and stakeholders involved in maintenance activities, including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and facility upgrades.
3) Responsibilities
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing continuous improvement efforts in maintenance activities. All maintenance personnel are responsible for contributing to and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
4) Procedure
- Performance Monitoring and Analysis
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for maintenance activities, such as equipment uptime, mean time between failures (MTBF), and maintenance cost per unit.
- Regularly monitor and analyze KPIs to identify areas for improvement.
- Root Cause Analysis
- Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures, maintenance delays, and other performance issues.
- Implement corrective actions based on root cause analysis findings to prevent recurrence.
- Continuous Improvement Projects
- Initiate and prioritize improvement projects based on identified opportunities and business priorities.
