Standard Operating Procedure for Maintenance of Filling and Sealing Machines
1) Purpose
The purpose of this SOP is to establish guidelines for the maintenance and operation of filling and sealing machines in pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities to ensure efficient filling and sealing processes and product quality.
2) Scope
This SOP applies to all filling and sealing machines used within the facility premises.
3) Responsibilities
The Facilities Management Department is responsible for implementing and adhering to this SOP. The Filling and Sealing Machine Technician or designated personnel are responsible for the maintenance and operation of filling and sealing machines.
4) Procedure
- Preventive Maintenance
- Develop a preventive maintenance schedule for filling and sealing machines based on manufacturer recommendations and operational requirements.
- Inspect machine components such as filling nozzles, sealing heads, conveyors, and sensors regularly for wear, alignment, or contamination.
- Cleaning and Sanitization
- Follow standard operating procedures for cleaning and sanitizing filling and sealing machines to prevent cross-contamination and ensure product purity.
- Use approved cleaning agents and methods suitable for equipment materials.
- Performance Verification
- Conduct performance verification tests to ensure filling and sealing machines operate within specified parameters such as fill volume, seal integrity, and throughput.
- Calibrate equipment controls as per calibration procedures.
- Emergency Procedures
- Develop and maintain emergency response procedures for filling and sealing
- Maintain accurate records of equipment inspections, maintenance activities, performance tests, and calibration results.
- Document any incidents, repairs, or adjustments made to the filling and sealing machines.
