Standard Operating Procedure for Maintenance of Plumbing Systems

1) Purpose

This SOP applies to all plumbing systems within the pharmaceutical manufacturing site, including water supply lines, drainage systems, and fixtures.

3) Responsibilities

The Facility Management Department is responsible for implementing and adhering to this SOP. The Maintenance Team is responsible for executing maintenance activities.

4) Procedure

  1. Maintenance Schedule Planning
    1. Develop a maintenance schedule for plumbing systems based on criticality, regulatory requirements, manufacturer recommendations, and operational history.
    2. Assign specific maintenance tasks to qualified personnel.
    3. Document the schedule and ensure it is communicated to relevant departments.
  2. Preventive Maintenance Tasks
    1. Inspect and test water supply lines and fixtures for leaks and pressure issues.
    2. Check drainage systems for blockages and proper functioning.
    3. Service water heaters and pumps as per manufacturer guidelines.
    4. Ensure compliance with plumbing codes and regulations.
  3. Corrective Maintenance Procedures
    1. Address plumbing issues promptly to prevent disruptions in water supply or drainage.
    2. Diagnose the cause of problems and determine appropriate repairs.
    3. Perform repairs using approved materials and techniques.
    4. Conduct tests to verify proper functionality post-repair.
  4. Record Keeping
    1. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, including preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
    2. Document inspection reports, maintenance logs, and repair records.
    3. Archive records for future reference and regulatory inspections.
