SOP for Preparation of Inorganic Nanoparticles

SOP for Preparation of Inorganic Nanoparticles

Standard Operating Procedure for Preparation of Inorganic Nanoparticles

1) Purpose

This SOP outlines the procedure for the preparation of inorganic nanoparticles, such as gold, silver, and zinc oxide nanoparticles, which are used in various biomedical, industrial, and environmental applications.

2) Scope

This SOP applies to laboratory personnel responsible for synthesizing inorganic nanoparticles using chemical, physical, or biological methods.

3) Responsibilities

  • Operators: Responsible for preparing inorganic nanoparticles following this SOP.
  • QA: Ensures that the nanoparticles meet the required specifications for size, purity, and stability.

4) Procedure

4.1 Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles

4.1.1 Chemical Reduction Method

  • 4.1.1.1 Dissolve a gold precursor, such as chloroauric acid, in water and reduce it using a reducing agent (e.g., sodium citrate) under stirring, forming gold nanoparticles.

4.2 Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles

4.2.1 Reduction of Silver Nitrate

  • 4.2.1.1 Dissolve silver nitrate in water and reduce it using a suitable reducing agent, such as sodium borohydride or plant extracts, to form silver nanoparticles.

4.3 Purification and Characterization

4.3.1 Purification

  • 4.3.1.1 Purify the nanoparticles by centrifugation or filtration to remove unreacted precursors and by-products.

4.3.2 Particle Size Measurement

  • 4.3.2.1 Measure the particle size using dynamic light scattering (DLS) or transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to ensure the nanoparticles are in the desired size range.

4.4 Storage

4.4.1 Storage Conditions

  • 4.4.1.1 Store the inorganic nanoparticles in sealed containers
at room temperature or 4°C, depending on the material and stability.

5) Abbreviations, if any

  • DLS: Dynamic Light Scattering
