Waste Disposal Procedure (SOP)

Purpose

The purpose of this SOP is to establish procedures for the proper disposal of waste, including hazardous materials, in compliance with regulatory requirements and environmental standards.

Scope

This SOP applies to all personnel involved in waste disposal activities within the pharmaceutical warehouse.

Responsibilities

Procedure

  1. Waste Segregation:
    • Segregate different types of waste (e.g., general waste, recyclables, hazardous waste) at the point of generation.
    • Use designated waste containers or bins for each waste category and ensure proper labeling.
    • Train personnel on waste segregation practices to minimize contamination and facilitate proper disposal.
  2. Storage and Accumulation:
    • Store waste containers in designated waste storage areas with appropriate signage and containment measures.
    • Regularly inspect waste storage areas for leaks, spills, or other potential hazards.
    • Monitor waste accumulation levels and schedule timely disposal to prevent overflow and minimize storage time.
  3. Disposal Procedures:
    • Contract with licensed waste disposal vendors for the collection and disposal of different types of waste.
    • Prepare waste for collection according to vendor requirements, including labeling, packaging, and manifesting.
    • Ensure that hazardous waste is handled, stored, and disposed of in compliance with applicable regulations.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of waste generation, segregation, storage, and disposal activities.
    • Document waste disposal manifests, certificates of destruction, and other relevant documentation.
    • Report any incidents, spills, or non-compliance issues related to waste disposal to the appropriate authorities.
